Why Endometriosis Nutrition Isn’t Just About Cutting Foods Out
Aug 25, 2025If you spend enough time on Instagram or TikTok searching for endo-friendly nutrition tips, you’ll start to notice a theme: everyone is telling you what NOT to eat.
“Cut out dairy.”
“Nightshades are the worst.”
“Sugar is fueling your endo pain.”
And then you’ll see comment sections FULL of women coming at other practitioners or creators with endometriosis who dare to eat a tomato, an onion, or a little cheese 😭
“OMG dairy is SO bad for you.”
“You shouldn’t eat nightshades. That’s why your pain is so bad.” 🙄
Here’s the thing: food is more often than not, NOT the issue.
Of course, ultra-processed foods aren’t doing any of us favors. But when it comes to eating for endometriosis, what if the focus wasn’t on taking everything away… but on adding foods in? What if the bigger issue is that many women with endo simply aren’t eating enough (because they’ve eliminated half their diet already)?
👉 What if it’s not really the tomato? Or the onion? Or even the dairy?
What if addressing endometriosis is really about understanding it as the full-body disease that it is?
- Nervous system dysregulation
- Gut health and absorption
- Blood sugar balance
- Mineral and nutrient status
- Lymphatic drainage
There’s actual literature linking gut health to endometriosis. If your gut is inflamed, infected, or struggling to break down food, then of course some foods are going to feel rougher to digest. But eliminating more and more isn’t fixing the root — it’s just narrowing your plate.
Your gut health can be a HUGE source of your pain, inflammation, histamine reactions, and those periods you dread every single month.
When you stop viewing food as the enemy and start addressing the deeper drivers of endo — your whole body, not just your plate — that’s when symptoms begin to shift. And you can do it without living on a “no” list of foods forever.
Because let’s be real… who wants to live like that for life?
Surgery and hormone-suppressive meds can be tools, but they aren’t the whole answer. You deserve more than band-aids and fear around food. You deserve to feel at home in your body again.
And this is exactly the work I do with my clients with endo.
