4 Hidden Clues About Your Fertility (And What to Do Next)

You’ve been tracking ovulation, taking your prenatal as recommended, eating gluten + dairy free because your favorite influencer told you these affect fertility… maybe you’ve even cut out caffeine + tried a random parasite cleanse you read about online…
And yet, your body still feels off.

But let’s chat about fertility a second because it’s NOT just about ovulation or getting pregnant.
It’s a reflection of how healthy you are… how balanced (or imbalanced) your body is. Your hormones, gut health, thyroid, nervous system, etc.. All of which play a role in the safety needed in your body to conceive.

Clue #1 Irregular, missing or painful periods.
Our menstrual cycle is our fifth vital sign + a monthly report card giving us insight into our health. Our periods can also tell us about hormone balance–especially estrogen, progesterone, + thyroid function
Common signs your cycle is abnormal include:
- Short cycles → low progesterone
- Long or irregular cycles → possible thyroid or PCOS
- Heavy bleeding or clots → estrogen dominance (commonly seen with fibroids, adenoymosis, + endometriosis)
- PMS + painful cramps → poor detox of estrogen (leading to estrogen dominance)
If your cycle is missing or irregular, ovulation + progesterone production likely is too. And if your cycles are painful, despite being regular, this is telling us you still need hormone support.

Clue #2 Gut issues like bloat, food sensitivities, chronic diarrhea or constipation.
Your gut health directly impacts so much of our health. Everything from hormone metabolism, to nutrient absorption to inflammation– all of which can have an impact on fertility.
And no, boosting gut health + beating bloat isn’t as simple as taking a greens powder.
Common signs of gut issues that need further investigation:
- Bloating→ often a sign of poor chewing, low stomach acid, poor file flow, low digestive enzymes
- Chronic constipation→ poor estrogen clearance from the body leading to estrogen dominant symptoms
- Food sensitivities→ often a sign of low stomach acid, poor absorption, histamine issues, leaky gut or a dysregulated nervous system (often a combo of all the above)
- Slow motility / Feeling like food sits in your gut like a rock → low stomach acid, poor bile flow + therefore sluggish hormone detox.
If you’re not absorbing key nutrients well, your gut lining is permeable due to an inflammatory diet, environmental toxins, medications, or gut pathogens, or you’re not eliminating estrrogen properly, this can have an impact on your cycles + even fertility.
Things like increasing fiber + water intake, regular movement + cooked vs raw veggies can help your gut out a lot.

Clue #3: Constant Fatigue That Impairs Day to Day Life
A body that’s tired all the time is depleted. And a depleted + drained body is prioritizing survival, not reproduction, as hard as that is to hear.
Common causes of fatigue (that have nothing to do with getting little or poor sleep which are OBVIOUS) include:
- Sluggish adrenals from CHRONIC stress- this is under eating, living your life constantly on edge, not working through feelings, etc
- Being on the blood sugar roller coaster all day – aka hardly eating, eating the standard american diet, and eating a diet high in refined carbs
- Sluggish thyroid function- years of stress, under eating or even nutrient deficiencies from diet OR poor gut health/absorption issues
Low energy at the cellular levels = poor metabolic + mitochondrial function, both of which are crucial for supporting fertility, egg quality, hormone balance and more. Your body cannot support or sustain energy if it hardly has the resources to sustain itself.

Clue #4: Skin issues like acne, psoriasis + eczema.
Your skin is the largest organ on your body and is a direct reflection of your internal health. And when it comes to detoxification, it can pick up the slack if your liver + bile are sluggish.
Common types of skin issues and what they indicate:
- Deep chin/jaw/acne acne/cysts → elevated androgen, high estrogen, poor estrogen clearance/ detoxification
- Dry or flakey skin → a sluggish thyroid or nutrient depletion
- Psoriasis and eczema→ sluggish liver detox, food sensitivities, or leaky gut
- Cyclical breakouts → clear sign of high estrogen and even blood sugar
- Breakouts during stressful seasons of life → high cortisol and the impact it has on blood sugar + hormones
