Why “Eating Clean” Wasn’t Enough to Heal My Endometriosis

If you’re an endo babe and you’ve been told to just eat clean, pop some pills, and power through—this blog is for you.

Because for years, I did everything “right.” I ate clean. I followed an anti-inflammatory diet. I tried every protocol and treatment available. And still... I was sick, bloated, exhausted, and in pain.

Let me be clear: nutrition matters. But food alone isn’t going to fix what’s going on when you’re dealing with a full-body condition like endo. If you’re nodding your head right now—keep reading.

Here’s the truth about my endo journey:

I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 20. I’m over 30 now. In that time, I’ve had:

  • 3 surgeries
  • 12 different birth controls
  • 2 full years of medically-induced menopause

And despite all that, I was still living on a heating pad, canceling plans, and clenching through pain that made it hard to even walk. Gut issues, pelvic pain outside of my cycle, mood swings, cystic acne, histamine reactions—you name it.

And the worst part? I was doing everything “they” told me to do.

So why wasn’t I getting better?

Here’s what I learned: Endo isn’t just a reproductive disorder—it’s an inflammatory, immune, gut, and nervous system condition. Slapping a restrictive diet and some birth control on top of it doesn’t even come close to real healing.

Let me break it down.

The 4 Real Reasons I Was Still Struggling (Even With a Clean Diet):

  1. I was under-eating big time.
I had cut out gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, eggs, corn, red meat, rice... basically everything delicious. And what did that leave me with? Not much. Not enough protein, not enough minerals, not enough fuel.

Being undernourished is a HUGE stressor on your body. Add that to an already-overloaded system with endo? Recipe for disaster.

  1. My nervous system was fried. I was the definition of a type-A, perfectionist, go-go-go, people-pleasing girlie. I lived in survival mode. I was always “on,” always overthinking, never slowing down.

That chronic stress is a massive root cause behind hormone chaos, endo flares, and gut dysfunction. And for most endo babes I talk to? Same story.

  1. I wasn’t absorbing my nutrients. Thanks to stress and H. Pylori, I had low stomach acid, which meant I wasn’t digesting food properly or absorbing the vitamins and minerals I was eating.

You can eat the healthiest diet in the world, but if your gut’s not working—you’re not getting the benefits. Period.

  1. My body couldn’t detox. I was constantly exposed to endocrine disruptors, mold, and stress. I didn’t have the nutrients I needed to support detox (like B vitamins and folate). I was constipated. I was bloated. I was stuck.

Detox isn’t a buzzword—it’s a biological process your body needs to eliminate excess hormones and toxins. If you’re not pooping every day and supporting your liver, your hormones will stay out of whack.

I had to stop chasing quick fixes.

I stopped putting my hope in surgery, or another round of pills, or yet another food elimination plan. Instead, I got real about my habits, my stress, my environment, and my whole-body health.

Because yes, toxins can come from mold and plastics… but they can also come from people who don’t believe you. People who invalidate your pain. People who drain you. That energy matters.

So what actually helped me heal?

I followed a personalized, root-cause based healing plan that targeted:

  • Gut health
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Hormones + minerals
  • Histamine responses
  • My day-to-day habits
  • My environment (yes, even my relationships)

And here’s where I am now:

  • My cycles are easy
  • I barely get flares
  • I’m eating almost everything I used to avoid (except gluten)
  • My gut is calm
  • I’m not exhausted 24/7
  • My skin is clear

I never thought this could be my story. But it is.
